Alumni Highlight: Bernie Yost- Class of 2023 & 2024

We are proud to highlight Bernie Yost who recently graduated with a Certificate in Welding Technology in 2023 and an associate degree in Mechanical Technology and Diesel & Automotive Engine Overhaul in 2024.

 

Why Did You Choose This Program?

Bernie’s academic journey at WCCC was driven by a clear career vision. His decision to pursue welding technology was motivated by a desire to secure employment in the welding industry. Subsequently, he expanded his skill set by studying engine overhaul, enabling him to independently maintain and repair his own vehicles.

Current Occupation: Traveling Welder at New England Mechanical Overlay

Bernie is currently employed by New England Mechanical Overlay, a traveling welding company based in Pittsfield, New Hampshire. Bernie attributes his professional preparedness to the practical, hands-on training he received at WCCC. His recent achievement in mastering stainless TIG welding on the job is a testament to his dedication and adaptability.

 

How Did Washington County Community College Prepare Him for His Current Role?

Bernie shared that throughout his studies, he appreciated Scott’s hands-on teaching approach, support, and guidance that ensured he fully understood the course material and was job-ready at graduation.

 

Advice for Current and Prospective Students

Bernie offers valuable advice to current and prospective students: “Learn as much as possible and enjoy the easy days while you can. The work environment is both different and similar to school—a unique and rewarding experience.” WCCC is dedicated to preparing students like Bernie with the skills and confidence needed to excel in their chosen fields.
