Alumni Highlight: Cynthia Russell- Class of 2013

Washington County Community College is proud to highlight the success of our graduate, Cindy Russell, who earned an Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting in 2013. Cindy’s journey is a powerful example of how a passion for helping others, paired with the right education, can lead to a rewarding and impactful career in healthcare. 

 

Why Did You Choose This Program?

Cindy chose the Medical Assisting program at WCCC because of her strong desire to pursue a career in the medical field. She has always had a passion for taking care of others and knew that becoming a medical assistant would allow her to directly help people, especially when they aren’t feeling their best. The program offered a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience that equipped her with the skills she needed to succeed in the field. 

 

Current Occupation: Medical Assistant at St. Croix Regional Family Health Center

Today, Cindy works as a Medical Assistant at St. Croix Regional Family Health Center in Princeton, Maine, where she has been making a difference for the past eight years. Her role involves assisting healthcare professionals with patient care, ensuring patients feel comfortable, and helping provide high-quality medical services to the community. Cindy’s position is a direct result of her training at WCCC, where she gained valuable clinical experience. 

 

How Did Washington County Community College Prepare Her for Her Current Role?

Cindy credits WCCC for providing the hands-on experience and real-world exposure needed to thrive in her role. The clinical experiences at doctor’s offices and labs helped her gain insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of medical assistants. She appreciates how WCCC’s diverse medical care settings allowed her to learn about various tasks and what to expect in the field. She said the supportive and knowledgeable instructors at WCCC also made a big difference in her experience, offering guidance that helped her excel. 

 

Advice for Current and Prospective Students

Cindy’s advice for current and prospective students is to never stop learning. “You are never too old to learn and continue your education. Education is the key in today’s world,” she says. Cindy’s journey is proof that with passion, dedication, and the right educational foundation, you can make a lasting impact in your career.
