James Blase, New Head Golf and Cross Country Coach

Calais, ME – Washington County Community College (WCCC) is proud to announce the appointment of James Blase as the new Head Golf Coach and Head Cross Country Coach for the Fall 2025 season. With a strong background in golf and collegiate coaching, Blase is ready to lead the WCCC Golden Eagles to success.

Blase brings over seven years of experience as a tour caddie on the PGA and LPGA Tours, both domestically and internationally, with notable roles at prestigious venues such as TPC Scottsdale, Laurel Valley Golf Club, and Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. In 2024, he served as Assistant Golf Coach at Western Texas College, a two-year community college, where he developed his coaching expertise by guiding student-athletes in their athletic and personal growth. His extensive experience, paired with skills in sports coaching, leadership, and communication, makes him an excellent fit for WCCC’s athletic programs.

As Head Golf and Cross Country Coach, Blase will manage all aspects of the collegiate golf and cross country programs, including recruiting high-caliber student-athletes eligible for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), coaching during practices and competitions, and assisting with the creation of the 2025 season schedules. His duties also include mentoring student-athletes, driving the team to away competitions, and supporting fundraising initiatives to bolster the programs.

“We are delighted to welcome James Blase to WCCC,” said Dr. Tyler Stoldt, Dean of Student Services and Acting Athletic Director at Washington County Community College. “His coaching experience at Western Texas College, combined with his deep knowledge of golf, positions him perfectly to lead our golf and cross country teams. We are excited to see the impact he will have on our student-athletes in the Fall 2025 season.”

Blase’s additional skills in physical education, time management, and relationship management will create a supportive and competitive environment for WCCC’s student-athletes. His background in tutoring and working with students will further strengthen his mentorship of the Golden Eagles.

“I am thrilled to join Washington County Community College and lead the golf and cross country teams,” said Blase. “Drawing on my experience from Western Texas College, I am eager to recruit talented student-athletes and build a program that reflects WCCC’s dedication to excellence.”

This is the first season of golf and cross country being available for students to compete at WCCC. With Blase’s leadership, the golf and cross country teams are set to build momentum during the Fall 2025 season.  You can learn more about Coach Blase by checking his Instagram @caddiewithjamesblase
