Washington County Community College (WCCC) is excited to announce Elijah Smith as the new Assistant Coach for both the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams and Sports Information Director. With his background as a former college basketball player and experience in coaching and program development, Smith brings valuable skills and energy to these roles.

During his time at the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA), Smith scored over 1,000 career points and earned United States Collegiate Athletic Association 2nd Team All-Conference honors. As team captain from 2019 to 2023, he helped improve the UMA men’s basketball program, contributing to better overall records. His stats include averaging 17.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in his senior year (2022-23), with a high of 34 points against the University of Maine Fort Kent on February 8, 2024. His on-court achievements and multiple Player of the Week awards show his deep knowledge of basketball and ability to motivate others.

As Assistant Coach, Smith will work on improving player skills, planning game strategies, and building a supportive team environment for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams. His experience starting the West Texas Basketball Association shows he can build programs from scratch, focusing on teamwork, discipline, and personal growth. Smith is dedicated to guiding student-athletes to succeed in basketball, academics, and life.

In his role as Sports Information Director, Smith will use his communication and networking skills to promote WCCC’s athletic programs. His knowledge of game analytics, community outreach, and alumni engagement will help increase support for the college’s sports teams and connect with fans and donors.

“Elijah’s experience as a student-athlete and his work in coaching and program development make him a great fit for our athletic programs,” said Dr. Tyler Stoldt, Dean of Student Services and Acting Athletic Director at WCCC. “We look forward to seeing him support our student-athletes and grow our athletic programs in these roles.”

Smith also brings skills in performance metrics, strength and conditioning, and strategic planning. He is committed to supporting academic progress, monitoring player GPAs, and helping athletes navigate challenges to succeed in all areas of their college experience.
