Washington County Community College Students Named to 2026 All-Maine Academic Team
CALAIS, ME — Washington County Community College proudly announces that Brittany Inman and Wendy Eckert have been named to the prestigious All-Maine Academic Team for 2026. The All-Maine Academic Team recognizes outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement among community college students statewide.
Brittany Inman, of Strong, Maine, is pursuing an Associate Degree in Education and maintains an impressive 3.86 GPA. A first-generation college student, Brittany balances significant family, work, and academic responsibilities while supporting her daughter with a disability. She is actively employed as a state-certified Behavioral Health Professional, working with children with diverse needs, and contributes to her community as a Girl Scout parent volunteer. Brittany demonstrates a strong commitment to education through both her academic work and hands-on experience, including an upcoming internship in a local school setting.
Brittany’s leadership is evident in both formal and informal roles, including organizing academic support opportunities for peers and consistently stepping forward to guide and support others. Her long-term goal is to pursue a career in education, with a particular interest in special education, where she can continue advocating for equitable and inclusive learning environments.
Wendy Eckert, of Baileyville, Maine, is pursuing an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences with a 3.96 GPA and plans to transfer to the University of Maine to pursue a degree in nursing. A first-generation college student, Wendy balances academic excellence with significant leadership and service commitments across campus. She currently serves as President of Student Senate and President of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter, while also working as a volunteer tutor and residential assistant.
Wendy’s leadership is rooted in resilience and purpose. After overcoming a serious car accident that reshaped her goals, she returned to college with a renewed commitment to healthcare and service. Her academic journey reflects both determination and excellence, particularly in rigorous coursework such as Anatomy and Physiology. Through her leadership roles, she has strengthened student engagement, fostered community connections, and created support networks for non-traditional students balancing work, family, and academics. Wendy aspires to become a registered nurse and ultimately work in the field of space medicine, combining her passion for science, service, and innovation.
Dr. Tyler Stoldt, Dean of Enrollment Management and Student Services and PTK chapter co-advisor, praised both students, stating, “Brittany and Wendy truly embody the Phi Theta Kappa ideals of scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship. As someone who was actively involved in PTK as a student leader during my own community college experience, I recognize the level of commitment and excellence required to receive this recognition. Their accomplishments reflect not only academic success but a deep commitment to their communities and to supporting others along the way.”
Both Brittany and Wendy exemplify academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to improving their communities through education and service. Their recognition on the All-Maine Academic Team underscores their dedication and contributions both within and beyond the college. “Brittany and Wendy not only exemplify academic success but also demonstrate WCCC’s efficacy in addressing a range of student demographics. We are very proud of their achievements and local contributions and wish them continued success” mentioned Academic Dean Dr. Stephanie Brown.
The All-Maine Academic Team program is part of the national Phi Theta Kappa honor society initiative, spotlighting the most accomplished students from community colleges nationwide. Inman and Eckert will be formally recognized for their outstanding academic and community achievements at the Phi Theta Kappa induction ceremony on April 29th at 5:30pm in the St. Croix Lecture Hall on the WCCC campus.
